Nursing is one of the great blessings of humanityPASIGHAT, Oct 26: The 44th Capping ceremony of ANM (Auxiliary Nursing & Midwifery) was held at the General Hospital, Pasighat yesterday.
The programme began with the lightning of ceremonial lamps and floral tributes to the portrait of the great lady Florence Nightingale by Health and Family Welfare Minister Kalikho Pul. The passed out students received their symbolic Caps and Pins and took pledge which nurses are destined to deal with.
Speaking on the occasion, Pul said that nursing is one of the greatest blessings of humanity, placed beside the physicians and priests.
Remembering unparallel contributions of Florence Nightingale, he said, “We cannot build a hospital without nurses. Nursing is not for everyone. It takes a very strong, intelligent and compassionate person to take on the ills of the world with passion and purpose and work to maintain the health and well-being of the planet.”
While lauding Dr Kabang Lego (JDHS), Dr Y R Darang (MS), doctors and their associates for stepped-up efforts in continuing with accountability, evaluation and provision of information to make progress transparent to the citizens, Pul pledged to take new initiatives on prioritizing diagnostic and pharmaceutical development, and called for expanding the use of modern scientific methods and technological advances.
Making commitment for advancement through strategic investments in the sector as a state priority, he said that significant progress has been made in this field and numerous efforts are underway throughout the state to make health care delivery more responsive and sustainable.
There was a need of rationalization of health care professionals like doctors, nurses, pharmacists and technicians etc as he observed some shortage in remote areas in the state. “A doctor is placed at a higher pedestal in the society for his ability to lessen human sufferings. I, as a minister, cannot do that, but you can. My duty is to ensure that the most essential medicines and equipments are available to you to facilitate you discharging your duties and therefore you should be dedicated, sincere and devoted towards early detection and proper treatment to the poor and needy.”

Doctors should spread awareness on cleanliness, prevention of early pregnancy, safe sex, immunization programmes, proper nutrition for mothers, national vector control programmes including all other centrally sponsored beneficial schemes during their day to day interactions, he opined.
The Minister advised them to prescribe commonly available generic medicines instead of specific brands available at only identified pharmacies and urged the medical fraternities to tighten their belts to meet the rising expectations of the people.
Further, he assured the hospital administration to provide power transformer soon so that sophisticated instruments could be operated well.
Education Minister Tapang Taloh, in his speech, said that health and education departments were very ‘sensitive’ departments but people living in remote areas equally deserve these services so that there should be no compromise in rationalization process for larger interest of the people.
He categorically said that his department was passing through a “bad phase” but fortunately people of the state were cooperating to rescue it from the “danger zone” by extending their support. Stating that conducive atmosphere was prerequisite for every development, he appealed the people not to encourage bandh culture in the name of democratic movement.
Local MLA Kaling Moyong assured to provide Rs 5 lakh from his MLALAD fund for infrastructure development and appealed the Health Minister to take initiative for establishment of Medical College at Pasighat.
MP Ninong Ering also gave spot sanction of Rs 10 lakh for infrastructure development and assured to donate his paternal lands for the proposed Medical College.
Among others, MLAs – Dikto Yikar, Olom Panyang and Kento Rina, ex-minister Bosiram Siram, Secretary H&FW Indra Mallo, Director Dr Kartik Mising and East Siang DC in-charge T Siga were present. (DIPRO)
