ITANAGAR, Oct 26: The Theravada Buddhists of Namsai district celebrated the 36th Poi-Panchong festival at Manfaiseng village, nearly eight km from the new district headquarters, on Oct 25. People from all spheres attended the celebration.
According to custom, after the completion of three months Rainy Retreat (Varshavasa), the Theravada Buddhist community of the entire district gather at a particular location and celebrate this remarkable event called ‘Poi-Panchong’.
Poi-Panchong was started in 1978 at Chongkham and since then it is celebrated every year in different villages which is fixed by the Arunachal Pradesh Bhikkhu Sangha (APBS).
