ITANAGAR, Sep 16: The Aalo Police has arrested a schoolteacher on charges of molesting and sexually harassing the under-age girl students he teaches in a leading residential school at Aalo, the headquarters of West Siang district.
The “shocking” incident that purportedly occurred at the private-run Saint Xaviers International School, Aalo came to light only when the parents of two victims lodged a police complaint, basing on which the alleged accused was arrested from the school on September 13 last, disclosed the Superintendent of Police, West Siang district, Mari Riba when contacted by EoA this evening.
The accused, identified as 31-year-old Prabhat Kumar Yadav, a native of Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, has been sent to a seven days’ police remand after being produced before a local court, according to the SP.
A case (No. 91/14) under section 8/10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 has been registered at the Aalo police station and the investigation into the incident was underway, informed the SP.
He, however, denied knowledge of the number of victimized children and their age bracket.
In contrast, the school authority could not be contacted for comments despite repeated attempts.
In a similar incident, a teacher-cum-warden of the private-run Green Valley Residential School at Likabali, Vipin Wisvan, was arrested in August 2013 on the charges of raping and molesting 14 minor girl students, for three years. The heinous crime had then evoked strong protests from the across the State.
