ITANAGAR, Oct 2: The East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organization and Women Welfare Organization along with the representatives from AAPSU and East Kameng Middle Zone Students’ Union observed the 68th birth anniversary of late Nyari Welly, the first elected lady MLA of the state and mother of Health & Family Welfare Minister Atum Welly today amidst a good gathering at Nyokum Lapang, Seppa.
Paying floral tributes to the first lady MLA, DC Tarin Dakpe ridiculed at violence means of achieving objectives suggested the people to follow the foot prints of late Welly. Dakpe further cautioned the people on “rise of clanism in the district which seriously undermines the law and order.”
SP B.K Mishra advocated for recognition of women’s contribution in society saying one has to change the thinking and perceptions on woman folks.
Atum Welly, local MLA Tapuk Taku, EKSWCO chairman Dr Tachi Taku, former Minister Hari Natung along with WWO chairperson Yatak Rimo Riang and student leaders also paid floral tributes to the first lady MLA.
The late MLA was born on 2nd Oct 1945 at Beyong village. She was elected as MLA from Seppa constituency from 1980 to 1988. She died on 21stAugust, 1988.
Earlier, a marathon race themed ‘run for women empowerment’ was organized in different categories.
Later Devi Dada was adjudged as winner while Lungne Tayem and Metik Rapung secured 2nd and 3rd position respectively in girls’ category. Sapna Pao, Mangam Choley Tallo and Sangte Sangdo were declared as first, second and third respectively in woman’s category. Longmak Taniang Dada was declared as Nyari Welly Ideal Woman of the year. She was presented with a citation, a memento and bouquet.
