ITANAGAR, Oct 2: The Wildlife Week (Oct 1-7) is being celebrated by Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary Division, Wakro with the theme “Save Wildlife and Save Our Future”. The week-long celebrations in schools and villages located in fringe area of the sanctuary kicked off at Kamjang Govt School on Tuesday with the school children taking active part in fruit and avenue tree plantation, on-the-spot drawing competition and awareness meeting. The topic of the drawing competition was “Save Hornbill and Hoolock Gibon”.
In the meeting, DFO Koj Tassar and RFO B S Deori explained in detail about the purpose of celebration and importance of wild plants and animals for survival of humankind. They requested the school children and teaching staff to take care of the planted trees, which not only will give fruits, shade, and fresh air and add beauty to the school campus, but will also serve as home for many birds. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders in the drawing competition were distributed prizes on the occasion by the SMC chairperson.
