ITANAGAR, Sep 30: The wait is finally over with the formal launch of the State’s first 24×7 satellite news channel, ‘North East Live’, by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in presence of DoNER Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar and a huge gathering including a galaxy of bigwigs at IG Park here this late evening.
Expressing his delight to be part of the “historic” occasion of launch of the news channel, the chief guest Tuki, in his inaugural address said, “This is a giant leap (forward) for journalism and mass media in the land-locked state of Arunachal Pradesh – a late starter – which boasts of just seven dailies being published from the capital and few other tabloids from other parts.”
“The growth of media houses is a welcome trend. As all are aware that media is considered as the fourth pillar of democracy, it is of utmost importance that this pillar is strong and vibrant for democracy to thrive and prosper. I believe with the addition of another member today, the fourth pillar of democracy in our state has grown stronger,” he said.
Reiterating that the geographically large State was having immense potential in all respects, he appealed the media “to showcase and promote the rich cultural, religious, adventure and natural potentials of the State along with its unique identity of unity in diversity…The basis should be to promote and project Arunachal Pradesh in proper light to the outside world.”
In his brief address to the gathering, the guest of honour, Ghatowar said with the launch of North East Live, people of the country and abroad will be able to know more about North East India.
“It’s a happy opening for all of us in the NE region…The information on North East India missed by the mainstream channels will be fed to the rest of country and the world from now on through this satellite channel,” the DoNER Minister said with conviction to a huge round of applause.
Earlier, the CMD of North East Live, Takam Moni welcomed the dignitaries and others and said, “It is high time that the NE region, especially Arunachal Pradesh – the Land of Rising Sun is properly projected through the electronic media to the national mainstream….I am of the firm belief that through this channel not only Arunachal would establish its identity but each state of this region would prove its worth at national and global arena.”
While acknowledging the fact that there was “an enormous task ahead of us” towards fulfilling the people’s growing aspirations, the CMD sought support from all concerned and said, “Let us walk together to translate the dream into a reality.”
Among those notables present on the occasion were Members of Parliament – Wanshuk Syiem, Vincent H Pala, Mukut Mithi & Takam Sanjoy, State’s Finance & Planning Minister Chowna Mein and several other parliamentary secretaries and legislators.
Apart from several numbers rendered by local artistes like Bengia Tabb, Bengia Hemanta and Marto Kamdak, star performances by Angarag Mahanta (Papon) and the East India Company were the major highlights of the show enjoyed by several thousands of music-crazy crowd.
