ITANAGAR, Aug 18: The Solung United FC (SUFC) lifted the SFCCI-2013 organized coveted Solung Football Running Trophy after thrashing Siang United FC 2-1 in the final match played here at DNGC playground today.
During the first half of the match, Tom Lomtung of Siang United FC scored the first goal of the match in 17th minute, while Taja Bonung of Solung United FC scored the second goal in 37th minute.
Ojing Jerang’s goal in 80th minute contributed the winning team to lead the match.
General Modi of Solung United FC was named as the player of the day.
Both the winning and losing teams got a cup each along with cash prices.
Golgi Bote FC received the best disciplined team award, Mibom Tako of SUFC received player of the tournament award, Taja Bonung of SUFC got the highest scorer’s award for scoring nine goals in the entire tournament and Olik Tamut of Banggo United FC was adjudged as the best goalkeeper.
Earlier, while gracing the match as chief guest, senior citizen and social worker Talem Melong exhorted the players to play the game with full discipline and maintain spirit of each team.
While urging the youths to make proper utilization of time, Melong asked them to refrain from indulging in gambling and avoid taking drugs. He further stated that such kind of event (tournament) will imbibe unity and fill communication gaping among all.
SFCCI-2013 president Dr Asham Borang informed that the theme of the tournament was “Plays to no AIDS” in order to insure youths against HIV/AIDS infection. Borang further revealed that the theme of the coming Solung Festival is “Agriculture and Green Environment”.
