ROING, Aug 11: The 4th Gora Pertin Memorial Football Tournament being organized by the Adi Cultural & Literary Society (ACLS) commenced today at the Parbuk general playground, about 19 km from Roing, with Lupalum Kri, Chief Engineer, PHED (East Zone) along with Sipi Elapra, Lower Dibang Valley Zilla Parishad Chairperson kicking the ball amidst a huge gathering of people.
The opening match was played between defending champions Rayang FC and Gamgu FC in which Rayang FC won by 8-1. Altogether, 14 teams are participating in the tournament, the finals of which will be played on Sept 8 next.
Earlier in his inaugural speech, the EE said that today sport is a noble profession and the youths can live a lavish life by sincerely and dedicatedly taking up sports as their way of livelihood. While exhorting the youths to play with the true spirit of sportsmanship and discipline, he remarked the Hindi adage “padhoge likhoge banoge nawab, kheloge khudoge banoke janab” is no more applicable in today’s world as anybody who takes up any profession can become a star and earn his livelihood from it.
Among others, ZPC Sipi Elapra, ACLS chairman Kirpa Pertin, secretary Maktin Lego and its chief patron Bassu Perme (also ex-MLA) and Mibom Pertin, son of late Gora Pertin also spoke on the occasion. (DIPRO)
