ITANAGAR, Jul 12: As part of the ‘System of Rice Intensification’ -a pilot project under the RKVY, GoAP, an on-field demonstration programme was conducted by A Kirankumar Singh, SMS (agronomy) and in-charge programme coordinator, KVK West Siang, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, A P Centre, Basar in the field of Kenmar Basar of Gori-I village with two varieties of paddy (RCM-11 and CAU-R1) to be compared with Mipun, the local variety.
During the programme, Kirankumar Singh showed all the techniques of uprooting the seedlings, preparation and leveling of the main field, marking the row spacing with SRI row marker, transplanting the single seedling with proper care and management.
As per the requirement at different stages of the crop, practical demonstration on weeding with the help of Cono Weeder will also be carried out.
Kenmar Basar is also involved practically in his field handling all the required implements for adopting the system for getting higher production and productivity of the crop.
The farmers from different parts of the district approached the KVK West Siang to cover their respective fields under the System of Rice Intensification.
The KVK is also trying to cover the large areas of paddy fields under the system with improved varieties as well as the local varieties to make the farmers aware about the differences in production and productivity of different varieties in the same piece of land with the use of the same inputs available with them.
Under the project, training is imparted to farmers along with on-field demonstration programmes. The interested farmers of different districts can adopt the system with the help of the KVK West Siang and ICAR, Basar to be a part of the project under the able leadership and guidance of Dr R Bhagawati, Joint Director & PI and A Kirankumar Singh, co-PI of the project to make the state self-sufficient in rice production.
