Kohima, Jul 18: A training programme on System for Rice Intensification (SRI) was conducted at District Agriculture Office Conference Hall for all the field functionaries, sponsored by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) of Kohima.
According to ATMA Kohima Project Director, Nosezole Zao in a press release here today said that the resource persons were the Agriculture Production Project Officers Kekhrieletuo Yhome and Khriesezolie Kire. He said that the training on SRI was conducted in accordance with emergency situation arising due to drought like situation faced by farmers in some villages where about 40-50 per cent of crops is still facing severe irrigation shortage.
Through SRI, Rice nursing taken only 8-14 days and since the system require lesser water as the field is keep alternatively wet and moist, the system if adopted can be a great remedial measure for shortfall of monsoon rain in the area. ‘The Department is all geared to do the follow-ups by training the affected farmers in selected villages and the activities to be strictly monitored by the respective field functionaries,’ the release said.
