Govt pleaded to upgrade Tato middle school
ITANAGAR, May 1: The Boh-Aao Welfare Society has fervently appealed the State govt, particularly Education Department to initiate immediate steps for up-gradation of Govt Middle School, Tato, one of the oldest schools in the area, into secondary level which is a long-felt demand of the people of Tato circle under Mechukha sub-division of West Siang district.
It said established way back in 1965 as primary school and later upgraded to its present status in 1967, the school is completing its golden jubilee in five years. Despite several appeals made to govt in the form of petitions and memoranda, nothing has been done till date for upgradation of the school. On the other hand, various schools with same status established in the district in same year or even later have already been upgraded, rued the Society while making yet another strong plea for the same and informed that the school has got all the criteria for being upgraded into secondary level.
Informing that due to absence of secondary schools in the area, many poor but talented students face lots of problems in their studies as their guardians unable to send them out in other places for studies, the Society appealed the govt to initiate early steps to upgrade the govt middle school, Tato into secondary level from this coming academic session 2012-13 for the greater interest of students of the area. It also appealed the local MLA to take up the matter with the govt as well as department concerned for immediate upgradation of the middle school.
West Siang bids adieu to Tak
AALO, May 1:West Siang has bid adieu to outgoing deputy commissioner Amjad Tak with the officers and staff of the district according befitting farewell to the IAS officer at DC’s conference hall here today. Tak has been transferred toNew Delhi on a new assignment.
It requires here a mention that Tak was the longest serving DC inWest Siangdistrict for three years and four months. During his tenure, Tak has done a yeoman’s service for the development of the district in spite of having faced many hurdles. His contributions include the renovation and extension of DC’s office building.
On the occasion, all the officers and staff extended their sincere thanks to Tak for his contributions towards the people of the district and prayed to Donyi-Polo for a happy journey.

Governor mourns Assam boat tragedy victims
ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh has expressed grief and shock over the death of many valuable lives in a boat tragedy at theBrahmaputra river inAssam’s Dhubri district on Monday. More than 200 people are still untraced.
The Governor wrote toAssamcounterpart J B Patnaik as well as the Chief Minister ofAssam, Tarun Gogoi conveying his heartfelt condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
While praying that such incidents do not recur in future, the Governor also offered all necessary help and cooperation in relief and rescue operations from Arunachal Pradesh. (PRO)
Call for ‘peaceful’ public hearing
ITANAGAR: The Dam Affected Peoples Forum of Yapik,West Siang district has called for proper conduction of the public hearing for the Naying hydro electric project. The Forum has appealed the govt for deploying para-military forces so that the public hearing can be conducted peacefully. The public hearing, to be held at Pene village under Tato circle on May 11, should not be affected by anybody or any organization, it added.
‘Implement govt policy on transfer and posting’
ITANAGAR: In a representation to the State Chief Secretary, the Arunachal Law Students’ Union (ALSU) today called for immediate implementation of govt’s latest transfer and posting policy “for the sake of better work efficiency of govt officers and staff and also to prevent corruption and red-tapism”. The ALSU claimed that the govt has failed to implement its policy on transfer and posting of all categories of officers and staff. Due to non-implementation of the policy, all categories of govt officers and staff remained in a single positing place for more than three years and in some cases even more than 9 to 10 years, it added.
Appeal for service regularization
ITANAGAR: On the occasion of May Day celebrations here, the All Arunachal Pradesh Government Departmental Labours’ Union today submitted a memorandum to the Itanagar MLA, appealing the State govt for immediate regularization of services of work-charged staffs and casual/contingency workers of various govt departments who have already completed 10 years’ service with getting any promotional avenues or benefits.
NERIST celebrates ‘Naba Barsha’
ITANAGAR, May 1: The Bengali students and staffs of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST) celebrated ‘Naba Barsha’ (Bengali New Year) at NERIST campus yesterday with pomp & gaiety. The celebration was also participated among others by students from different parts of the country.
Taking part in the celebration as chief guest, Prof Dipankar Pal, Director NERIST said celebration of different festivals in the campus develops brotherhood among different communities. He congratulated the Bengali community of NERIST for their selfless services for the overall development of the NERIST.
AAPSU president Takam Tatung, who graced the occasion as guest of honour, termed NERIST as ‘Mini India’ and reminded the students of the Institute that they are the role model of the younger generation of the State in particular and country as a whole and exhorted them to maintain the legacy intact.
He also called upon the NERIST faculties “not to indulge in petty politics which severely hampers the growth of the Institute”, while stating that “campus politics has retarded the growth of the leading institute of the region”.
The celebration reached its frenzy when the ‘Indian Idol’ fame singer Amit Paul belted out numerous Hindi & Bengali songs in accordance with demands of the festival revellers. The other highlight of the function was the release of a souvenir ‘Ujjayanta’ jointly byTatungand Amit Paul.
Women Panchayat leaders attend Women’s Political Empowerment Day function
ITANAGAR, May 1: A belated reported received here today informed that ZPMs Hage Yassung, Taba Chiji, Nada Dumi and Bar Sumpi and ASM Nabam Peju had attended the two-day 19th Women’s Political Empowerment Day celebrations in New Delhi on April 24-25 last. The theme of the celebration was ‘Panchayat, Women and Health for All’. The function was addressed by Union Minister of Panchayati Raj, V Kishore Chandra Deo as chief guest.
Demand opposed
ITANAGAR, May 1: While opposing the demand of Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) and All Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) on giving ST status to Arunachal Mishings, the All Arunachal Pradesh Border Student’s Union (AAPBSU) has appealed for ending up the demand saying there are various issues for the welfare of indigenous people of the State. Extending its support to AAPSU in this regard for the greater interest of civil society of the State, AAPBSU said it would always stand by the AAPSU for the benefit of the indigenous people of the state.
